RAMALLAH, Saturday, September 07, 2019 (WAFA) – The Israeli army killing of two young Palestinians during the March of Return protests in the Gaza Strip yesterday and injury of dozens others was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies today.
The three papers covered this topic extensively as their main lead story and included pictures of the two boys as well as pictures from the protests.
Al-Quds said United Nations Special Coordinator Nickolay Mladenov described in a tweet the killing of the two Palestinian teenagers as “appalling” and calling on Israel to “calibrate its use of force, use lethal force only as a last resort, and only in response to imminent threat of death or serious injury.”
It quoted US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo saying the so-called deal of the century will be made public in the coming weeks. It also said Palestinians welcomed the resignation of the US special envoy to the Middle East Jason Greenblatt.
Al-Ayyam said Avi Berkowitz, an assistant to Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior advisor Jarod Kushner, who is going to replace Greenblatt, has no experience in Middle East politics.
It said Palestinians in Jerusalem and Shufat refugee camp held a rally in support of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) demanding an extension of its mandate.
It also said a European court has ruled in favor of Hamas and called on the European Union to remove it from the list of terrorist organizations.
Al-Quds said the Palestinian United Travel bus company that links occupied Jerusalem to its area villages and West Bank cities such as Ramallah and Bethlehem is threatening to go on strike starting Monday in light of the failure of its talks with the Israeli transportation ministry on its difficult financial situation.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) signed an agreement of cooperation with the United Nations.
