Weather forecast: Heat stress to prevail

 

RAMALLAH, Thursday, August 22, 2019 (WAFA) – Weather today is mainly hot in most districts and very hot in the Jordan Valley in daytime with a rise in temperature which approaches 3°C above the seasonal average, said the Palestinian Meteorological Department (PMD).

Relatively hot to hot conditions are expected in nighttime. Wind is northwesterly to northeasterly and light to moderate with occasional gusts. Sea waves are low.

Temperature in Jerusalem and Bethlehem is expected to reach a high of 31°C and a low of 21°C and in Ramallah and Hebron, a high of 29°C and a low of 20°C. In Jericho, the Dead Sea and the Jordan Valley, temperature is expected to reach a high of 41°C and a low of 27°C, while it is expected to reach a high of 31°C and a low of 24°C in Gaza and the coastal areas.

PMD expects Friday’s temperature to further rise and approach 5°C above the seasonal average, paving the way to hot to very hot conditions in daytime and relatively hot to hot conditions in nighttime.

Saturday’s temperature is set to drop by 2°C with hot to very hot conditions in daytime and relatively hot conditions in nighttime.

Sunday’s temperature is set to slightly rise and approach 4°C above the seasonal average with hot to very hot conditions in daytime and relatively hot conditions in nighttime.

PMD warns people against prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, especially during the peak hours of the day from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm local time, and against setting fire to areas where dry grass has grown.
