Jordan’s foreign ministry summons Israeli ambassador, condemns Israeli measures at al-Aqsa mosque

JORDAN, Sunday, August 18, 2019 (WAFA) – Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates summoned the Israeli ambassador in Amman and asked him to immediately convey a firm message to the Israeli government that it must immediately cease all violations and attempts aimed at changing the historical and legal status quo in al-Aqsa compound, according to Jordan’s Petra news agency.

The ministry reiterated Jordan’s condemnation and rejection of Israel‘s continued violations against al-Aqsa Mosque and demanded Israel to immediately halt such provocative acts, which fuel the conflict and constitute a gross breach of international law.

Secretary-General of the Ministry Zaid Lozi reportedly told the Israeli ambassador that the recent remarks by the Israeli Ministry of Internal Security over changing the status quo in al-Aqsa Mosque are condemned and rejected.

Lozi made it clear that the -Aqsa Mosque with its total area of 144-dunums is a place of worship and prayer for Muslims only, said Petra.

The ministry stressed its denunciation and rejection of the Israeli authorities‘ closure of the mosque‘s gates, denying access to Muslim worshipers, and placing any restrictions on their entry under any pretexts and circumstances, demanding Israel to respect its obligations as an occupying power in accordance with international law and international humanitarian law, Petra reported.
