RAMALLAH, Friday, August 02, 2019 (WAFA) – Secretary-General Saeb Erekat of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Saeb Erekat, called today upon the European Union and human rights organizations to “intervene urgently” to stop Israel’s “ongoing crimes” against Palestinian political detainees.
“The Palestinian leadership is making intensive efforts to hold Israel accountable for its grave violations against the Palestinian people, especially the Palestinian prisoners,” Erekat said during a meeting with ambassadors and consuls of EU countries.
Erekat briefed officials on the latest prominent violations committed by Israel against the Palestinian people and prisoners in particular, including torture, degrading treatment, medical negligence and more.
There are more than 5,500 Palestinians incarcerated in Israeli jails, including women and children, for resisting the Israeli occupation of their land.
