RAMALLAH, Sunday, December 02, 2018 (WAFA) – News about lighting the big Christmas tree in Bethlehem with the participation of the Prime Minister and thousands of Palestinians hit the front the pages of the three Arabic Palestinian dailies on Sunday.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah participated in lighting the Christmas tree in the vicinity of the Church of Nativity in the city of Bethlehem, the occupied West Bank, along with the participation of Father Francesco Patton, a top official with the Catholic Church in the Holy Land, and thousands of Palestinians who gathered to celebrate the event.
Hamdallah said that Christmas is every Palestinian’s holiday and is a national event.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that the Palestinian delegation participating in the Conference of the States Parties to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) succeeded in thwarting US attempts to question Palestine’s membership in the international organization, according to a statement by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riyad Malki on Saturday.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said in a statement that Jason Greenblatt, US President Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy, is trying to promote a new vision by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to solve the conflict, as reported by al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida.
The three dailies that the Israeli police in Jerusalem cracked down a protest in solidarity with Israa Jaabis, a 33-year-old wounded Palestinian mother and prisoner who was sentenced to 11 years in Israeli prisons after she was charged with attempting to carry out a suicide bombing at an Israeli checkpoint in October 2015.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that President Mahmoud Abbas on Saturday sent a letter of condolence to former US president George Bush and the American people, offering his sincere sympathy and condolences over the death of his father, the 41st president of the United States, George H.W. Bush.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that dozens were injured during violent clashes between the police and the “yellow vest” protesters, who have been rioting against the high living costs in Paris, France.
