RAMALLAH, July 28, 2018 (WAFA) – The serious developments in Jerusalem, and specifically at Al-Aqsa Mosque, and in Gaza at the border with Israel on Friday were the highlight of the front page stories of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Saturday.
The main front page headline in Al-Quds said: “Blatant Israel aggression against Al-Aqsa immediately after the end of the Friday prayer.” The kicker said: “Jerusalemites force the occupation to reopen its gates.”
On this subject, al-Ayyam headline said: “Jerusalemites force the occupation, once again, to go back on measures at Al-Aqsa.” It said, “24 detained and 45 wounded after Israeli forces have raided the Mosque.”
Al-Hayat al-Jadida added: “The will of the Jerusalemites wins over the tyranny of the occupation.”
The three papers dedicated a large portion of their front page to printing pictures from Al-Aqsa Mosque, mainly Palestinians celebrating inside the holy compound after forcing the Israeli police to reopen its gates for Muslim worshippers hours after it was closed.
They said President Mahmoud Abbas has contacted Arab and world leaders to urge them to force Israel to stop its aggression against Al-Aqsa Mosque. Jordan also condemned the Israeli measures at Al-Aqsa.
The three papers also dedicated their front page to the Friday events at the Gaza border with Israel where Palestinian hold their weekly March of Return protests. They said that two Palestinians were shot dead by Israel on Friday, one of them a 14-year-old boy. A third also died later of wounds sustained on Friday.
Al-Ayyam said a woman medic heard about her husband being shot and killed by Israeli forces while she was attending to other wounded people.
The Israeli army raids of the West Bank village of Kobar were also highlighted on the front page of the three dailies. They said Israeli forces raided the village north of Ramallah and harassed its residents after a young resident was allegedly involved in stabbing and killing an Israeli settler on Thursday night.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Major General Majed Faraj, head of the intelligence, warned during a visit to Russia of a religious war in the region as a result of an Israeli law that has declared Israel as Jewish nation-state in spite of the presence of a large number of non-Jews.
It said Palestine’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Riyad Mansour called on the president of the Security Council to act to prevent further deterioration in Jerusalem and Gaza.
Al-Ayyam said settlers set fire to a house and fields in Jaloud in the northern West Bank.
It also said President Abbas underwent medical checkup at Istishari Hospital in Ramallah and all results were good.
Al-Quds said a 4.6 quake hit northern Tiberius.
It said Palestinian civil protests icon, Ahed Tamimi, is expected to be freed from prison on Sunday.
The three papers also reported on the eclipse of the moon seen in Palestine on Friday night.
