RAFAH, August 17, 2017 (WAFA) – A suicide attacker apparently on his way to carry out an attack in Egypt, blew himself up on Thursday when he and another person were stopped by Hamas militias at the Rafah border crossing with Egypt for inspection killing one Hamas member and injuring others, some critical, according to witnesses and medical sources.
WAFA correspondent quoted witnesses saying that Hamas members spotted two people said to be hardline fundamentalists at the Rafah crossing apparently attempting to sneak into Egypt and stopped them.
One of the two, identified as Mustafa Kallab, set off an explosive device he had on killing Nidal Jafaari, 28, a member of the Hamas militias, and injuring four others, two of them reported in critical condition, according to medical sources.
The Kallab family disavowed Mustafa after condemning his act, announcing in statement that it has nothing to do with him and that it will not bury him.
Egypt reopened the Rafah crossing on Wednesday for two days to allow movement of people stuck on either side of the border for weeks due to the constant closure of the crossing.
