RAMALLAH, August 12, 2017 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted in their Saturday issue the clashes between unarmed Palestinian civilians resisting Israeli settlement and land grab plans and Israeli soldiers in the West Bank and on the Gaza borders.
The dailies said a number of Palestinians were hurt in these clashes that break out every week after the Friday prayers in several West Bank locations when citizens march peacefully to protest Israeli takeover of their lands to build illegal Jewish settlements. The soldiers usually respond with heavy fire power to crush and disperse the protesters using tear gas and rubber-coated metal bullets, while also often using live fire.
Al-Quds said one serious injury in the head was reported in the Israeli army crackdown on protests near the Gaza border and that settlers in Hebron attacked a child and homes in the old town.
Al-Ayyam said soldiers detained two 15 and 16 year old boys in Beit Ummar, north of Hebron.
The three dailies reported on the situation of the Shamasneh family in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of East Jerusalem and said residents held the Friday prayer outside the threatened residence of the Shamasneh family in protest against Israeli plans to evict the family from its home for decades for the benefit of fanatic Jewish settlers.
Al-Ayyam quoted Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman for President Mahmoud Abbas, saying that the Palestinians are committed to peace and they are waiting for the arrival of the American peace delegation, which the paper said is expected in the region soon.
The US delegation includes Jarod Kushner, US President Donald Trump’s senior advisor, special envoy Jason Greenblatt and Dina Habib Powell, of Egyptian decent and deputy National Security Advisor for Strategy to Trump.
Al-Quds quoted Ahmad Majdalani, member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, saying that the positions of the US Administration have proven that it is not an honest peace broker.
The papers quoted chief negotiator and the PLO Executive Committee’s Secretary General Saeb Erekat saying contacts are continuing with the Quartet for Middle East peace on all levels.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said 21 children were hurt during a mishap at a playing ground near Ramallah. The children were reported in moderate to light conditions and police has opened an investigation into the incident.
Al-Quds said 98 people got married in a group wedding in Tafouf near Bethlehem.
