Presidential spokesman says Netanyahu not ready to achieve peace

RAMALLAH, June 6, 2017 (WAFA) – Presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh said on Tuesday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent remark is a message to the US administration and to the international community that Israel is not ready to achieve peace.

Abu Rudeineh’s statement came in response to a remark by Netanyahu in which he said that Israel would keep security control over the West Bank in any future peace deal with the Palestinians.

“[Netanyahu’s statement] is a message to [US President Donald] Trump’s administration and to the entire international community that Israel is not ready to achieve peace based on the principles of justice and international legitimacy,” said Abu Rudeineh.

He added, “This remark is unacceptable. It creates an atmosphere that complicates matters and does not help at all in the success of efforts to find a solution that leads to security and stability in the region and the world.”

The meetings between President Mahmoud Abbas and Trump were “serious and clear and paved the way for creating a rare opportunity to achieve peace, which Israel is trying to waste,” said the presidential spokesman.

He pointed out that Israel is trying to obstruct all Arab and international efforts, especially US effort, to create the atmosphere for launching a serious political process, which would “fuel the conflict in the region and lead to further disintegration under a cracked regional and international system, which will leave effects on the political scene for many and difficult years.”
