RAMALLAH, June 5, 2017 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted on their Monday front page the 50-year anniversary of the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip.
The dailies reported on President Mahmoud Abbas’ statement on this occasion pledging to establish the independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital through the steadfastness and struggle of the Palestinian people.
Al-Ayyam reported the cabinet stating the Palestinian people and leadership would continue to uphold to their struggle until the Israeli occupation is brought to an end.
Al-Quds also published an article by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Middle East Regional Director Robert Mardini titled 50 years of Israeli occupation: What is next?
On the other hand, al-Quds opted to highlight official Israeli statements on ongoing settlement construction across the West Bank.
It reported Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejecting accusations by hardline Israelis that he had frozen settlement construction in Jerusalem and the West Bank.
It also reported him stating plans for the construction of thousands of new settler units that were recently approved.
The dailies also reported President Mahmoud Abbas condemning the terrorist attack in London and reiterating his rejection of “all forms of terrorism.”
Al-Quds said Israeli police detained five Palestinians from Jerusalem purportedly for planning to attack Israelis inside Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam added Israeli police delivered demolition notices for several Palestinian homes in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan.
The dailies added Israeli forces destroyed eight coal production facilities and confiscated hundreds of tons of wood used for manufacturing charcoal outside Yaabad town, west of Jenin in the northern West Bank.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported seven Palestinians were injured by Israeli forces in the West Bank and east of Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip, including two Palestinians who were injured with live ammunition during clashes in al-Mughayyir village, east of Ramallah.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam spotlighted an Israeli plan to install more than 1,000 surveillance cameras across Jerusalem.
Al-Ayyam reported Hamas movement denying reports that Qatar had instructed several members of its organization to leave Doha.
It added seven Palestinians sustained injuries when remnants of Israeli weaponry exploded in al-Mighraqa, southeast of Gaza city.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported Human Rights Watch Middle East director Sarah Whitson stating: “Israel today maintains an entrenched system of institutionalized discrimination against Palestinians ]in the occupied territory] - repression that extends far beyond any security rationale.”
