RAMALLAH, May 30, 2017 (WAFA) – China is ready to play an active political role to give the Middle East peace process a push forward, Chinese special envoy Gong Xiaosheng said during a meeting with President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah on Monday night.

Gong reaffirmed his country’s strong and firm support for the Palestinian cause and the right of the Palestinian people to freedom and independence.

He also reaffirmed this country’s readiness to support the Palestinian economy and its interest to develop bilateral relations in all fields, including the “silk road economic belt” project his country is working on with several other countries around the world.

President Abbas thanked China for its support, stressing the importance of strengthening bilateral relations.

He also briefed the Chinese envoy on the latest political moves, particularly his visit to Washington and Russia and his meetings with US President Donald Trump in Bethlehem.
