Palestinian Students celebrate the 60th anniversary of Rome Treaties

JERUSALEM, May 26, 2017 (WAFA) - The European Union (EU) and the Ministry of Education awarded Thursday Palestinian students from across the West Bank who participated in the "Know Europe" competition.

According to a press release from Office of the EU Representative, the competition was organized on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Rome Treaties. On 25th March the European Union marked 60 years since the signature of the Rome Treaties, the first step towards a united Europe against wars and towards peace.

The EU organized, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, the "Know Europe" Information Competition to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Rome Treaties. Around 400 students from six governorates of the West Bank and 54 schools participated in the competition.

“On this occasion, we reaffirm that we will continue to be a strong, cooperative and reliable power. This is an opportunity to remember where the EU came from, and above all how far it has come,” said EU Representative Ralph Tarraf on the occasion.

“Our partners in the world and Palestinians here know what we stand for. We stand for multilateralism for human rights, for democracy and for international cooperation,” he added.

“Our message today will be communicated by young Palestinian students: unity and peace guarantee a better future for all of us around the world as well as here in Palestine. In this case, if one wins then we are all winners; simple yet meaningful exercise students demonstrated today," he added.

Tarraf and Minister of Education Sabri Saidam prized the three winning teams from three different schools in Nablus, East Jerusalem and Jenin.

The team winning the first place was Surra Girls School from Nablus. The competition was based on questions related to the European Union as well as EU Member States.
