Exports, imports up in November 2016 raising trade deficit by 21%, says statistics bureau

RAMALLAH, January 23, 2017 (WAFA) - Exports increased in November by 13.7% compared to October and increased by 10.3% compared to November 2015 and reached $89.7 million, the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) said on Monday.

Exports to Israel increased in November 2016 by 12.3% compared to October and represented 82.5% of total exports.

At the same time, exports to other countries increased by 20.5% during the same period, said the PCBS.

Imports increased in November by 19.5% compared to October. It also increased by 14.6% compared to November 2015 and reached $477.5 million.

Imports from Israel slightly decreased by 0.3% in November compared to October and represented 53.5% of total imports.

On the other hand, imports from other countries increased by 54.9% in November compared to October.

The trade balance which represents the difference between exports and imports showed an increase in trade deficit by 21.0% in November compared to October. It also increased by 15.7% compared to November 2015 and reached $387.8 mmillion.
