Tunisia reiterates firm support for Palestinian people on 78th Nakba anniversary

TUNIS, May 15, 2026 (WAFA) – The Republic of Tunisia reaffirmed its firm and unconditional support for the Palestinian people on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the Nakba.

The Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that this anniversary represents a moment to recall the Palestinian people’s struggle and resilience in the face of the occupation, in pursuit of their legitimate rights to freedom, independence, and the establishment of a sovereign state.

It noted that the commemoration of this anniversary comes amid continued violations by the occupation authorities in the Gaza Strip, including breaches of the ceasefire agreement, the closure of crossings, the prevention of humanitarian aid entry, and restrictions on the movement of citizens, which have deepened the humanitarian crisis in the enclave.

The statement also pointed to escalating violations by the occupation in the occupied Palestinian Territory, including the enactment of racist laws and continued plans for land annexation and the expansion of colonization, in flagrant violation of international law and relevant conventions.

Tunisia reaffirmed its support for the Palestinian people, praising their resilience in the face of the occupation’s brutality amid troubling international silence.

It said that the State of Palestine enjoys broad international recognition, stressing that it is time to grant it full membership in the United Nations without delay.

Tunisia reiterated its commitment to supporting the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, the restoration of their legitimate rights, and the establishment of an independent state, with Jerusalem as its capital.
