JERUSALEM, December 14, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli police on Wednesday shot and killed a Palestinian at al-Wad Street in Jerusalem’s Old City, according to local sources and Israeli police.

Police said a Palestinian later identified as Hammad al-Sheikh, 21, from the village of Beit Sourik, stabbed a policeman with a screwdriver before he was shot and critically wounded.

The alleged assailant was transported to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The Ramallah-based Jerusalem Center for the Study of Israeli and Palestinian Affairs  said a total of 268 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since October of last year, most of them in the West Bank and East Jerusalem in alleged stabbing or car ramming attacks, and others in clashes with Israeli soldiers also in the Gaza Strip.
