RAMALLAH, December 3, 2016 (WAFA) – The agenda of the third and fourth days of Fatah party’s seventh congress in Ramallah and the flooding caused by heavy rain were the main focus of the front page headlines in the Saturday issue of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
Al-Quds said the attendees of Fatah’s congress discussed reports submitted by the various committees and formed a committee to be in charge of supervising elections for the top party posts.
The three dailies said congress spokesman Mahmoud Abu al-Haija denied reports that the list of candidates has the support of President Mahmoud Abbas.
While al-Quds and al-Ayyam covered the Fatah congress as their main front page story, al-Hayat al-Jadida opted to highlight Arab Israeli lawmakers from the United Arab List submitting a no-confidence vote in the Israeli government because of its settlement construction and land grab.
The daily and al-Ayyam said the landowners toured Palestinian lands confiscated for the construction of Amona settlement outpost.
The dailies also highlighted the heavy rains that hit the region causing widespread flooding and bringing traffic to a standstill mainly in the northern areas and coastal cities. The papers printed pictures of the floods in the Arab town of Kufr Kanna in the Galilee.
The three dailies reported on the army shooting and injuring at Mazmoria checkpoint, east of Bethlehem, of a Palestinian worker while he was on his way to his workplace inside Israel.
The man was reportedly identified as Mousa Dababsa, 28, from the Hebron district town of Yatta.
Highlighting West Bank detention raids, al-Ayyam said a total of 12 Palestinians were detained by Israeli forces during overnight raids across the West Bank. Al-Hayat al-Jadida said a total of 11 Palestinians were detained.
Al-Quds added Israeli troops detained a Palestinian from the Jerusalem district town of al-Ram purportedly for having weapons in his possession.
Al-Quds published a translation for How Trump could surprise the world on Israeli-Palestinian peacemaking, an article published by Dennis Ross in the Washington Post.
Al-Ayyam said outgoing US President Barack Obama signed a waiver ordering the US embassy in Israel to stay in Tel Aviv.
It reported Israeli authorities published a tender for the construction and operation of the “Jewel of Israel” synagogue in the heart of Jerusalem’s Old City.
