RAMALLAH, November 30, 2016 (WAFA) – A sick Palestinian detainee held in Israeli jails under administrative detention has threatened to go on a hunger strike if the Israeli prison service continues to deny him vital medical care, Wednesday said a statement issued by the Palestinian Detainees and Ex-Detainees Commission.

According to the Palestinian health ministry, detainee Mustafa Brijiyeh, 31, suffered from various diseases, and had a 72-percent disability evaluation prior to his detention.

The detainee has threatened to embark on a open-ended hunger strike if the Israeli prison service continues to deny him the proper and much-needed treatment.

To be noted, Brijiyeh suffers from bone erosion in the right foot, enlarged prostate, and inflammations in the testicles and abdomen. He suffers from a tumor in the neck area and persistent severe headaches.

He also suffers from hypoglycemia in the blood and disc herniation of the spine, and a gum infection.

The Israeli prison service has been providing the detainee with only over the counter pain killers, depriving him from a much-needed medical examinations and treatment.

The detainee appealed to all local and international human right and  humanitarian organizations to pressure Israel to release him, while taking into consideration his poor health condition and the absence of any charges against him.

Brijiyeh was detained in mid July of this year, and has been held under administrative detention since then.

The prisoner rights group Addameer asserts that the Israeli Prison Service maintains a systematic policy of medical negligence against Palestinian detainees.
