BEITA, NABLUS, November 21, 2016 (WAFA) – Work on the reconstruction of classrooms funded by Japan in the town of Beita, south of Nablus, was completed, a press release by the Representative office of Japan to the Palestinian Authority said on Sunday.

Takeshi Okubo, ambassador for the Palestinian Affairs and Representative of Japan to the PA, visited Beita to celebrate the completion of the project funded by the Government of Japan through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects GGP).

The grant of US $90,576 extended to Beita municipality was used to reconstruct three old classrooms in the ground floor of Beita mixed school “in order to secure the safety and adequate educational environment for the students,” said the release. The direct beneficiaries shall be about 80 students.

Okubo emphasized in a speech at the inauguration Japan’s “firm commitment of supporting Palestinian people from human security perspective,” as well as the importance of implementing social and economic development projects needed for Palestinian communities.

Since 1993 the Government of Japan has extended its official development assistance to the Palestinians to approximately US$1.7 billion. GGP projects have been formulated in collaboration with the Palestinian Authority through Ministry of Finance and Planning since 2010.
