BETHLEHEM, November 21, 2016 (WAFA) – A Palestinian worker from Bethlehem was shot and injured by Israeli troops on Monday as he was attempting to reach work in Jerusalem, according to medical sources.
The Palestinian Red Crescent (PRC) said Israeli soldiers chased Mahmoud Salah, 31, at Wadi Abu al-Hummus valley, east of Bethlehem, and opened fire and injured him in the right leg. Salah was on his way to work in Jerusalem.
He was transferred to Beit Jala hospital for medical treatment and reported in stable conditions, said the PRC.
According to Israeli human rights group, B’Tselem, “Israel has strict criteria for the approval of work permits [to Palestinians] and issues no more permits than the number fixed in an occasionally revised quota.”
In June 2013, B‘Tselem staff visited the Tarqumya and Eyal Checkpoints, through which Palestinians with work permits enter Israel. The organization found “harsh conditions of overcrowding, long lines, and cases of humiliation during inspection.”
