RAMALLAH, October 8, 2016 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted in their Saturday issue new Israeli right wing political rhetoric, particularly calls by education minister Naftali Bennet to sacrifice oneself for the goal of annexing the occupied West Bank to Israel.
The main front page headline in al-Hayat al-Jadida said: “The extremist Israeli right wing racing against time to bury the two-state solution.”
The headline in al-Quds that ran across the front page said: “An Israeli minister calls to sacrifice oneself to annex the West Bank and the Ministry of Tourism considers it part and parcel of Israel.”
Al-Ayyam also highlighted Bennet’s call to annex the West Bank but its front page headline said: “The occupation decided to build a new settlement on land from the village of Jaloud; a plan to expand the settlement of Beit El on land from Dora al-Qare.”
The paper said the European Union issued a statement saying by building settlements Israel is acting against Quartet recommendations on settlements.
Al-Ayyam had an exclusive interview with Palestine’s United Nations permanent representative Riyad Mansour in which he said that talks have begun with the Russian representative in his capacity as this month’s president of the Security Council on presenting a resolution against settlements to the Security Council.
The three papers also highlighted the weekly Friday protests in the West Bank against Israeli settlements, construction of the separation wall and the occupation itself saying dozens of people were hurt when Israeli soldiers used excessive force to break up the protests.
