RAMALLAH, October 6, 2016 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies Thursday highlighted several Israeli airstrikes that targeted locations to the north and east of the Gaza Strip after a missile fell on the southern Israeli city of Sderot.

Al-Ayyam said the Israeli army published a press release saying the airstrikes came as a response to a missile attack that targeted Sderot. The airstrikes targeted several locations where Hamas members are thought to be stationed, even though a Salafi group assumed responsibility of the attack.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that an Israeli pilot was killed after his F16 fighter aircraft crashed while attempting to land in an air force base in the Naqab on the way back from Gaza.

The three dailies printed photos that show smoke rising from several buildings in Gaza following the airstrikes.

Al-Quds newspaper said that Israeli naval gunboats took over a Gaza-bound international aid boat named “Olive” and steered it to Ashdod port where the authorities arrested the 13 female activists onboard.

The paper published a story about UNRWA’s Gaza employees who threatened to start a general strike in protest of the agency’s cuts to services offered to them.

Al-Ayyam reported that the US administration strongly criticized Israel for approving plans to construct a new settlement in the West Bank, saying it violates Israel’s pledge not to create new settlements.

It read: “Washington strongly condemns Israeli settlement activities, which impose a one state reality and an ongoing occupation.”

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that a delegation from the International Criminal Court (ICC) will begin an awareness tour in Palestine and Israel for five days, despite concerns that the visit will affect an ongoing investigation in possible war crimes committed during the 51-day war in Gaza in August 2014.
