Israeli forces open fire at Gaza fishermen, farmers

GAZA, October 5, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Wednesday opened fire at Palestinian farmers and shepherds along the borderline area to the east of Gaza city, as well as at fishermen sailing within Gaza waters to the south of the Strip, sources said.

Israeli forces stationed at military watchtowers along the borders with Gaza fired an artillery shell toward agricultural land  along the borderline area to the east of al-Zatoun neighborhood.

Forces also opened fire at Palestinian farmers and shepherds while they were tending to their land situated to the east of al-Shejaiya neighborhood, forcing them to leave the area. No injuries were reported.

In the meantime, Israeli navy boats opened a barrage of machine gunfire at Palestinian fishermen sailing within Gaza waters to the northwest of Gaza city forcing fishermen to return to shore. No injuries were reported.

The navy also attacked fishermen sailing within Gaza waters in the Khan Younis area in the southern Gaza Strip causing damages to a number of boats. No injuries were reported.

Israeli army and navy routinely open fire at Palestinian fishermen and farmlands along the Gaza border in a blatant violation of a ceasefire deal reached between Israel and the Palestinian factions in Gaza on August 26, 2014 following 51 days of bloody aggression on the Strip.
