RAMALLAH, April 4, 2016 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah Monday met with Christian Berger, Director for the Middle East at the European External Action Service.
During the meeting, Hamdallah called on all EU member countries to recognize the State of Palestine and establish full diplomatic relations with it.
"The labeling of settlement goods is a step in the right direction; however, we urge EU countries to stop the import of Israeli goods produced in illegal Israeli settlements," Hamdallah added.
The Prime Minister emphasized the necessity for the EU to support the French idea of holding an international peace conference.
"Such a conference would breathe new life into the stalled peace process, and ensure the implementation of UN resolutions," Hamdallah said. The final aim of the conference, according to the Prime Minister, is the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Prime Minister Hamdallah also briefed Christian Berger on the dire economic situation that Palestinians face due to Israeli control over Area C, and the sharp cuts in international aid.
