Israeli Army Detains Teen in Hebron, Tuesday’s Arrests Hit 21

HEBRON, March 29, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli forces detained a Palestinian teenager near al-Ibrahimi mosque in Hebron, raising the number of Palestinians detained on Tuesday to 21.

Local Omar al-Karki, 18, was reportedly detained near al-Ibrahimi mosque (Cave of the Patriarchs) for his alleged possession of a knife.

Based on  Adalah‘s legal representations, the legal center for Arab minority rights in Israel, the Israeli police are failing to follow the special procedures applicable to the arrest of  minors when arresting Palestinian youth.

“The police have failed to afford minors the right to consult with an attorney, have questioned them without the presence of their parents, interrogated them late at night, and compelled them to sign statements that they have not understood.”

According to B’Tselem, an Israeli human rights center, “At the end of Jan. 2016, 406 Palestinian minors were held in Israeli prisons as security detainees and prisoners, including 2 administrative detainees.”
