BETHLEHEM, January 13, 2016 (WAFA) – Three Palestinians were shot and injured by Israeli soldiers during clashes at the northern entrance of Bethlehem in the southern West Bank, said Palestinian medical sources.
Muhammad Awad, Director of the Ambulance and Emergency Department at the Palestinian Red Crescent Association in Bethlehem, told WAFA a Palestinian young man sustained injuries after he was hit with a live round in the leg.
The man was rushed to a Beit Jala hospital after he received first aid at the scene. His condition was described as stable.
Awad added that two other Palestinians were shot and injured with rubber-coated steel bullets. They were treated at the scene as well. Several others suffocated as a result of being showered with tear gas canisters fired by troops.
Clashes erupted after thousands of mourners attended the funeral procession of Srour Srour, 21, in the Bethlehem refugee camp of Aida.
Srour was hit and seriously injured with a live bullet in the chest as he was heading to his university in the Bethlehem town of Beit Jala afternoon Tuesday. He sustained a critical injury and was transferred to a nearby health center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after.
The funeral procession started from al-Husseini Hospital in Beit Jala to the nearby Aida camp, where family and relatives paid their last respects before proceeding to the camp’s cemetery.
