GAZA, July 20, 2025 (WAFA) – The number of deaths due to starvation and malnutrition in the Gaza Strip has risen to 18 cases within 24 hours, a dangerous indicator of the worsening humanitarian catastrophe facing the population as a result of the ongoing Israeli blockade and aggression on the Strip.
Medical sources reported that hospitals in Gaza are receiving hundreds of cases daily suffering from acute exhaustion and severe symptoms due to hunger, including memory loss and severe lack of energy, amidst a near-complete shortage of beds and medical supplies.
The sources indicated that the total deaths from starvation have so far reached 86 people, including 76 children, most of them in the northern part of the Strip, where around 17,000 children are suffering from acute malnutrition.
At least 800 children are afflicted with severe and critical malnutrition that threatens their lives.
The director of Al-Shifa Medical Complex confirmed that medical staff have been working without food for more than 24 hours, warning of a surge in death tolls in the coming hours due to the absence of food and treatment, affirming: "We are facing an organized genocide by starvation."
UNRWA had previously warned of a doubling in malnutrition rates among children under five, noting that it conducted approximately 74,000 examinations between March and June, which revealed thousands of cases of widespread acute malnutrition.
Hospitals are suffering from a complete inability to meet health needs, as the occupation continues to prevent the entry of food, medicine, and fuel. This threatens the complete collapse of the health system and an increase in deaths in the coming days.
