RAMALLAH, April 25, 2015 (WAFA) – Israeli forces suppressed Friday
anti-wall and settlement construction peaceful weekly marches, firing tear gas
canisters and live rounds at Palestinians, a news item that hit the front page
headlines in the three Arabic Palestinian dailies.
The three dailies reported that dozens of Palestinians were injured
with live fire and rubber-coated steel bullets, and dozens more suffered
excessive tear gas inhalation. Al-Hayat al-Jadida added that a Palestinian
young man lost an eye ]after being hit with a rubber-coated steel bullet shot
by Israeli forces[ in the Nablus village of Kafr Qaddum.
Al-Quds added that Israeli forces targeted the eastern areas in central
and southern Gaza; firing artillery shells.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida printed a photo featuring a
Palestinian young man whose face was covered in blood after being hit by a
rubber-coated steel bullet during the Friday peaceful march in the Ramallah
village of Nabi Saleh.
Following Israeli’s decision to deny South Africa’s Higher
Education Minister Blade Nzimande an entry visa into the occupied Palestinian
Territories, the three dailies also reported that South African universities
and colleges have been called to cut their ties with Israeli institutions and
for the Israeli Ambassador to South Africa Arthur Lenk to be expelled.
Palestinian Ambassador to Russia Faed Mustafa was quoted in
al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Quds as declaring that President Mahmoud Abbas will
head to Russia in May and that Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to
visit Palestine.
Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah was reported in the three dailies as
commending the Asian African Summit in Jakarta for adopting a declaration in
support of Palestine.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida added in this regard that the
summit has called for ending the Israeli occupation, urged all states to
recognize the Palestinian state and expressed support for the Palestinians’
right to freedom, independence and self-determination.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as stating that the establishment
of Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital will bring about
security and stability.
With regard to recent efforts exerted by France to
draft a UN Security Council’s resolution on the Palestinian question, the three
dailies quoted Israeli media sources as saying that Washington may not veto the
French draft resolution; that calls the UN Security Council to recognize the Palestinian
state.
Al-Ayyam reported that the venerable British
medical journal, the Lancet, has come under attack for taking a stance against
Israel’s latest war on Gaza.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on UN Relief and Works
Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) as warning that the
situation in Gaza is characterized by famine and urging donors to fulfill their
commitments they have previously made during the Cairo-based Gaza
Reconstruction conference.
