STOCKHOLM, August 2, 2025 (WAFA) – Hundreds of protesters gathered in Sweden’s capital on Saturday to demand an end to the ongoing genocide and starvation war carried out by Israeli occupation forces in the Gaza Strip.
The demonstration, organized by civil society groups, took place in Odenplan Square in central Stockholm. Participants called on the Swedish government to take a firm stance and work toward halting Israel’s military assault on Gaza.
Protesters carried signs reading “Children in Gaza are being killed,” “Hospitals and schools are under attack,” and “Stop the food shortage.” Many also voiced criticism of Sweden’s government, accusing it of remaining silent in the face of widespread civilian suffering in Gaza.
Chants such as “Free Palestine” and “No to Netanyahu’s plan” echoed throughout the square.
Speaking to Turkey’s Anadolu Agency, Swedish activist Kirstin Etman, a participant in the demonstration, described the situation in Gaza as a genocide and expressed deep solidarity with the Palestinian people.
“I was in the West Bank ten years ago and saw firsthand what’s happening,” she said. “I feel compelled to do something against this genocide. That’s why I regularly join these protests.”
Etman added, “I truly believe that one day, Palestine will free itself from Israeli occupation.”
She also strongly criticized her country’s political leadership, saying, “Our government has done nothing for Palestine — it’s a disgrace. Not only are they letting us down, but they’re also pursuing racist policies.”
“The politicians and the public are not doing nearly enough to stop the horrifying genocide taking place in Gaza,” she concluded.
