RAMALLAH,
March 26, 2015 (WAFA) – Remarks made by Premier Rami Hamdallah during his visit
to the Gaza Strip together with the European Union report outlining suggestions
on how to pressurize Israel into recognizing the right of Palestine to exist
following Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s electoral remarks ruling
out the establishment of Palestinian state, hit the front page headlines in the
three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
Al-Ayyam
quoted Hamdallah as stating: “We have drawn up a plan to address the issue og
Gaza’s public civil employees. Gaza border crossings should be handed to the
Palestinian Authority.”
Al-Quds
quoted him as stating: “We have come here today to strengthen reconciliation
and restart dialogue [with all Palestinian factions] that address all pending
issues.”
He was
also quoted in al-Quds as stating Palestinians will not accept establishing a
Palestinian state, unless it is a unified state with East Jerusalem as its
capital.”
Al-Hayat
al-Jadida reported on Hamdallah as describing the national reconciliation between
factions as ‘comprehensive’ and ‘encouraging’.
Al-Quds
also reported in this respect that Hamdallah and Hamas have agreed to form a
committee to be in charge of resolving Gaza’s crises.
While
Hamdallah’s visit to Gaza is featured as the main front page news item in
al-Ayyam, al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted EU’s report outlining
suggestions to be adopted in order to pressurize Israel into recognizing the
right of Palestine to exist.
Al-Quds said
as a result of publishing the report, EU’s clash with Israel would be
inevitable.
It published
that the report supports having East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestinian
state and called for pressurizing Israel into re-opening Palestinian
institutions in East Jerusalem, especially the Orient House, stepping up the
boycott of Israeli settlements’ products and calling on Israel to lift movement
restrictions on Palestinians.
Al-Hayat
al-Jadida reported in this regard that EU has urged the immediate resumption of
Palestinian-Israeli talks and that the report risks a ‘vicious confrontation’
between EU and Israel.
The
three dailies reported that President Mahmoud Abbas would head Friday to the
Egyptian sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh in order to attend the upcoming Arab
League summit.
The
three dailies reported that the Israeli government has suspended a plan to
build illegal settlement units in the East Jerusalem’s illegal settlement of
‘Har Homa’, also known as Jabal Abu Ghneim.
The
three papers also reported that Netanyahu has been entrusted with forming the
new Israeli government.
Al-Quds
and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that a young Palestinian man, ‘Ali Safi, succumbed
to his wounds sustained last week when he was shot in the chest by Israel
forces during clashes in al-Jalazun refugee camp.
Al-Quds
added that Israeli settler groups stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque Compound and that
Israeli forces raided and detained Palestinians from several districts in the
West Bank and opened fire on Palestinian fishermen off the coast of Gaza.
Highlighting
the Swiss proposal to solve the issue of Gaza public civil servants, al-Ayyam
reported that Hamas’ rejection of the proposal brings the issue back to the
starting point.
It said
that a France-based utility company, SAFEGE, has pulled out from a cable car
project linking West Jerusalem with the occupied East Jerusalem.
Al-Hayat
al-Jadida published that the Palestinian Ministry of National Economy has
adopted and applied some measures intended to halt the flow of Israeli products
into Palestinian markets.
It
quoted Palestinian Monetary Authority Governor Jihad al-Wazir as saying: “As a
result of withholding the tax revenues, the Palestinian economy is at stake.”
