Vice President Al Sheikh meets Greek SYRIZA delegation in solidarity visit

RAMALLAH, June 5, 2025 (WAFA) –  Vice President of the State of Palestine and Deputy Chairman of the PLO, Hussein Al-Sheikh, met on Thursday with a delegation from Greece’s ruling SYRIZA party at his office in Ramallah.

The delegation was led by SYRIZA party leader and Greek MP Sokratis Famellos, along with Rena Dourou, Head of Foreign Affairs and fellow MP, party secretary Renzos Sfingos, and diplomatic advisor Dimitris Papageorgiou. The meeting was also attended by Greek Consul General in Palestine, Ambassador Dimitrios Angelosopoulos.

The visit comes as part of SYRIZA’s initiative to express solidarity with the Palestinian people amid ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Al-Sheikh welcomed the delegation and praised the strong bilateral ties between Palestine and Greece. He thanked Greece for its continued support during what he described as a period of “ongoing genocide” against the Palestinian people.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed recent regional and international developments, with particular focus on the growing European momentum toward recognizing the State of Palestine based on the two-state solution. Al-Sheikh urged world capitals to unite behind this initiative, calling it the only viable path to achieving a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue.

For his part, Famellos reaffirmed SYRIZA’s backing for the recognition of Palestine and emphasized the need to intensify international efforts to achieve a ceasefire and deliver urgent humanitarian aid to Gaza.
