RAMALLAH, June 5, 2025 (WAFA) – Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets of Lisbon in a mass show of solidarity with the Palestinian people, condemning Israel’s ongoing aggression, which has so far resulted in the killing of approximately 50,000 Palestinians.

The rally, organized by several solidarity groups, saw protesters waving Palestinian flags and carrying signs reading “Palestine Will Prevail,” “Peace in the Middle East,” and “A Sovereign Palestine.”

Chanting for an end to Israeli aggression and freedom for Palestine, the demonstrators marched through central Lisbon, joined by a number of prominent political and cultural figures. Among them were General Secretary of the Portuguese Communist Party Paulo Raimundo and Left Bloc coordinator Mariana Mortágua.

Over 600 prominent Portuguese public figures—including politicians, academics, journalists, and former military officials—signed a petition demanding the Portuguese government recognize the State of Palestine.

The signatories urged Portugal to follow countries like Spain, Norway, Sweden, Brazil, and Angola in officially recognizing Palestinian statehood.
