JERUSALEM,
November 12, 2014 (WAFA) – Member of the Palestine Liberation Organization’s
central committee, Ahmad Queri, Wednesday called upon the Government of the
United Kingdom to recognize the Palestinian state as well as to support a
foreseen Palestinian UN draft resolution to set
a timetable for ending the Israeli occupation.
The call
came as Queri met with the British Consul General in Palestine, Alastair
McPhail, in the town of Abu Dis, east of Jerusalem.
The meeting
handled issues related to the Israeli escalations in the Occupied Palestinian
Territory, including settlement expansion and continued provocative visits by
Jewish settlers to Jerusalem’s al-Aqsa Mosque, as well as Israel’s intentions
to withdraw the identity cards of Palestinians in Jerusalem as means of
collective punishment.
On October
14, an overwhelming majority of
British members of Parliament favored a motion that calls for the recognition
of Palestine as an official state in a contribution for peace.
A total of
274 MPs expressed support for the motion, promoted by MP Grahame Morris, while
12 voted against it.
