Vice President Al Sheikh discusses political and security developments with EU delegation

RAMALLAH, June 10, 2026 (WAFA) – During a meeting with a high-level European delegation, Vice President Hussein Al Sheikh met with a senior European delegation to discuss recent political and security developments, the situation in the occupied West Bank, and the challenges facing Palestinian national institutions.

The European delegation included Alexandre Stutzmann, the European Union Representative to Palestine, and Karen Limdal, Head of the European Union Police Mission for the Palestinian Territories (EUPOL COPPS).

The Palestinian side included Major General Allam Al-Saqqa, Director General of the Palestinian Police, Major General Ruslan Sheikh Ibrahim, adviser to the Vice President, and Aya Al-Muhaysin, Head of the Vice President's Office.

Al-Sheikh briefed the European delegation on the most significant political and security developments and challenges, as well as the efforts being made to strengthen stability and maintain the capacity of Palestinian institutions to fulfill their duties in serving the Palestinian people.

He highlighted the difficult circumstances imposed by the Israeli occupation authorities and settlers, including attacks against Palestinian citizens in the West Bank, the ongoing suffering of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, and the continued withholding of Palestinian tax revenues.

He emphasized the Palestinian leadership's efforts to consolidate the democratic process and renew legitimacy following the local elections, paving the way for general elections.

Sheikh expressed his gratitude to the European Union for its support of the Palestinian people and their leadership, commending its role in supporting efforts to build Palestinian state institutions and promote stability and development.

For their part, the members of the European delegation affirmed the European Union's continued support for the Palestinian Authority and its institutions, stressing the importance of continued cooperation. They reiterated the EU's position in support of achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution and relevant UN resolutions.
