RAMALLAH, May 16, 2026 (WAFA) – The head of the media committee for Fatah’s Eighth General Conference said voting for the movement’s Central Committee and Revolutionary Council began at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and will continue until 4:00 p.m. simultaneously across all conference locations.
Speaking to Palestine TV, Sabri Saidam said the counting process will begin immediately after voting ends, starting with ballots for the Central Committee followed by those for the Revolutionary Council.
He added that preliminary results will be announced later, followed by a session to receive appeals and address any issues if necessary, before a final meeting of conference participants is held on Sunday to announce the official final results.
Saidam stressed that the electoral process was carefully planned and not improvised, noting that the logistical committee conducted preparatory exercises in advance of the elections.
He added that detailed explanations of the voting process were presented through live briefings, video materials, and AI-generated visual demonstrations, alongside field training for staff overseeing the elections.
The conference opened on Thursday with the participation of President Mahmoud Abbas, ambassadors and diplomats accredited to the State of Palestine, religious figures, representatives of Palestinian factions and national forces, and civil society organizations.
Around 2,580 members are participating in the conference, including approximately 1,600 in Ramallah, 400 in the Gaza Strip, 400 in Cairo, and 200 in Beirut.
