Eighth Conference of Fatah to conclude with election results

RAMALLAH, May 16, 2026 (WAFA) – The Eighth General Conference of Fatah is scheduled to conclude on Saturday with the announcement of the final results of elections for the movement’s new Central Committee and Revolutionary Council.

The conference has been taking place over three days in Ramallah, alongside parallel sessions in the Gaza Strip, Cairo, and Beirut, with the participation of around 2,580 members of the movement.

Voting for members of the Central Committee and Revolutionary Council is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue until 4:00 p.m., followed immediately by vote counting and the announcement of results before the issuance of the conference’s final statement.

Under Fatah’s internal regulations, conference members elect 80 members to the Revolutionary Council and 18 members to the Central Committee, although the conference has the authority to increase or decrease those numbers through an official decision.

Nominations for the elections opened at 10:00 a.m. on Friday and closed at 2:00 p.m., followed by the announcement of preliminary and final candidate lists.

The conference sessions have proceeded in an organized atmosphere reflecting the movement’s commitment to ensuring the success of the conference and strengthening democratic participation within its leadership structures.
