RAMALLAH, February 7, 2026 (WAFA) — The Ministry of Education and Higher Education reaffirmed today its commitment to UNESCO standards, stating that recent reports circulating on social media about Palestinian school curricula are largely based on examples that were altered by the Israeli occupation in textbooks used in Jerusalem schools. It said these changes are part of policies aimed at imposing Israeli narratives on the city.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the ministry said some foreign-funded media outlets have deliberately sought to confuse the State of Palestine’s commitment to aligning its education system with UNESCO standards with fabricated examples that do not exist in Palestinian curricula, or by citing content from Jerusalem textbooks that were modified by the Israeli occupation.
The ministry reaffirmed its full commitment to UNESCO standards for quality education and said it is implementing an integrated educational system aimed at the enhancement of learning and building on achievements made over recent years.
It noted that this year it began piloting dozens of interactive schools, moving toward administering the General Secondary Examination (Tawjihi) over two years under a new specialization-based system, in addition to advancing the teaching profession and other elements of a comprehensive plan to modernize education in line with international standards and labor market needs.
The ministry called on media outlets and citizens to exercise accuracy and avoid spreading misleading information promoted by suspicious platforms and accounts seeking to incite public opinion and internal tension, stressing that the textbooks currently used by students clearly demonstrate the facts.
