Preparatory committee discusses Palestinian National Council elections, emphasizes inclusivity and national unity

RAMALLAH, December 18, 2025 (WAFA) — The Higher Preparatory Committee for the Palestinian National Council elections held its eleventh meeting on Thursday, chaired by the Council Speaker, Rawhi Fattouh.

Members stressed that elections should only be held once political and security conditions allow for the participation of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and affirmed the need for a political will to engage youth broadly in the Palestinian political system through parliamentary elections.

The committee underlined the importance of expanding dialogue and strengthening national unity to confront the critical challenges facing the Palestinian people, including attempts at displacement, division, emphasizing that there can be no state without Gaza and Jerusalem, and that the unity of Palestinian territories is a red line that cannot be crossed.

Fattouh called on the subcommittees to prepare their final reports and submit them to the higher committee to carry out its primary mission of mapping out the roadmap for the Palestinian National Council elections.
