NEW YORK, November 18, 2025 (WAFA) – The United Nations, through its General Assembly committee responsible for human rights and humanitarian affairs, adopted its annual resolution reaffirming the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and their right to independence and to live freely in their homeland free from the Israeli occupation, as an inalienable right that is not subject to any conditions, reservations, bargaining, or negotiation.
The resolution reaffirmed the conclusion of the International Court of Justice in its advisory opinion regarding the illegality of the Israeli occupation and the need to end it without delay, as it constitutes an obstacle to the Palestinian people’s ability to exercise their right to self-determination and the independence of their state.
A total of 164 countries voted in favor of the resolution, including Canada, Australia, all European Union member states, and the majority of South American, Asian, and African countries. Only seven countries voted against it—Israel, the United States, Argentina, Paraguay, Micronesia, Nauru, and Papua New Guinea—while nine countries abstained.
The resolution carries added weight as it comes amid ongoing efforts by the Israeli occupation to displace the Palestinian people, annex Palestinian land, and entrench its unlawful presence in the occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem and particularly the besieged Gaza Strip.
It reflects broad international rejection of these violations and calls for adherence to international law in addressing the Palestinian question in all its dimensions, without double standards and without hindering the course of international justice as affirmed by international courts.
