Israeli occupation forces forcibly remove three Palestinian families in Silwan, Jerusalem

JERUSALEM, November 9, 2025 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces on Sunday forcibly evicted three Palestinian families from their homes in the Batn al-Hawa neighborhood of Silwan, in occupied Jerusalem, in a move to seize their homes.

The Palestinian Authority's Jerusalem Governorate reported that Israeli police raided the neighborhood, blocked roads leading to it, and deployed heavily in preparation to implement eviction orders targeting homes belonging to the Al-Shweiki and Odeh families.

During the eviction, Asmahan Al-Shweiki, the owner of one of the three homes, suffered a health deterioration and fainted as she was forcibly removed from her home, and was subsequently taken to the hospital.

Ahmed Al-Shweiki, whose home was also seized, said that the family had received an eviction order from Israeli authorities valid until October 19, but their lawyer had extended the deadline to November 30. “We were surprised today when Israeli police stormed the house and emptied its contents,” he said, adding that he was physically assaulted, sustaining bruises and injuries.

The governorate affirmed that such settler-backed eviction orders are being used as a tool for the forced displacement of the Palestinian population of Jerusalem, allowing organizations such as Ateret Cohanim to claim ownership of land. The organization alleges that approximately five dunums and 200 square meters in the neighborhood historically belonged to Jews from Yemen since 1881.

Currently, around 750 Palestinians from 87 families live in Batn al-Hawa. All face eviction orders in Israeli courts as part of a systematic Judaization plan supervised by settler organizations with direct support from the occupation government, aimed at forcibly displacing Palestinians and expanding settlements in the heart of the neighborhood.
