Tens of thousands march in Berlin, demanding end to Israeli onslaught on Gaza

BERLIN, September 28, 2025 (WAFA) – Tens of thousands of people rallied in the German capital on Saturday, waving Palestinian flags and holding banners calling for freedom and an end to Israel’s war on Gaza, in a remarkable shift in German public opinion regarding Israel.

According to AFP, demonstrators marched from the city hall to the Victory Column, where the event concluded with a mass gathering and a music concert featuring rap and hip-hop artists.

Crowds carried Palestinian flags and placards with slogans such as “Free Palestine” and “Food and water are human rights.”

Dustin Hirschfeld, one of the participants in the demonstration, said the large turnout sent a clear message that a majority reject Israel’s policies and genocide.

Police estimated the number of participants at around 60,000, while organizers put the figure closer to 100,000. About 1,800 police officers were deployed to secure the march, which remained peaceful throughout the day.

The Left Party, which co-organized the rally with several civil society groups, issued sharp criticism of the German government’s silence on the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza, urging Berlin to take practical steps and apply stronger pressure on Israel to change its policies.

The protest came amid growing public anger in Germany over Israel’s ongoing genocidal war on Gaza, which has so far claimed the lives of over 66,000 Palestinians, a majority of whom are children and women, and over 168,000 injured.
