CAIRO, August 31, 2025 (WAFA) – The Arab League has called for urgent Arab humanitarian and social support for Palestine, stressing that such support is no longer a choice but an urgent necessity that must top the priorities of joint Arab action.
The call came during the meeting of the Social Committee of the Economic and Social Council in its 116th regular session, held at the League’s headquarters in Cairo, with the participation of member states’ delegations and several specialized organizations. Tunisia assumed the chairmanship of this session from Bahrain.
The Arab League emphasized the importance of the social issues on the agenda, foremost among them two proposals submitted by the State of Palestine focusing on providing social care for the most vulnerable groups amid the worsening humanitarian situation in the occupied Palestinian territories due to Israeli practices.
The meeting stressed the need to formulate clear and practical recommendations to be presented to the senior officials' meeting and subsequently to the ministerial meeting, in order to strengthen the role of the Economic and Social Council in advancing Arab social action towards greater inclusivity and sustainability.
