France and Germany reaffirm commitment to two-state solution, call for immediate end to Gaza war

PARIS, August 30, 2025 (WAFA) – France and Germany have reaffirmed their commitment to the two-state solution as the only way to ensure Israelis and Palestinians live side by side in peace, security, and dignity, while guaranteeing stability across the region.

In a joint statement issued after a meeting between French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Toulon, the two countries called for an immediate end to the war in Gaza and the delivery of humanitarian aid throughout the territory.

The statement urged a cessation of hostilities, with rapid, unrestricted humanitarian assistance coordinated by the United Nations and NGOs. It stressed the need for the immediate release of all hostages.

France and Germany condemned all attempts to annex or reoccupy Palestinian lands, including settlement expansion plans such as the E1 project east of Jerusalem. The statement expressed shock at the scale of human losses in Gaza and at reports of famine caused by the blockade and escalating Israeli attacks, denouncing any forced displacement of Palestinians.

The two countries also called on Israeli authorities to halt military attacks, lift humanitarian restrictions, and cooperate with the Palestinian Authority as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people. This includes releasing withheld clearance revenues, maintaining existing banking arrangements, holding violent settlers accountable, and ensuring safe access for journalists and humanitarian workers across Gaza.
