CAIRO, August 21, 2025 (WAFA) – The Arab Republic of Egypt issued a strong warning on Thursday regarding the potential consequences of Israel’s plan to seize control of Gaza City.
In an official statement, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed "deep concern" over the Israeli government’s continued advancement of a military campaign aimed at taking over urban areas in the Gaza Strip. The ministry said such actions represent a renewed attempt to entrench Israel’s "illegal occupation of Palestinian territories" and constitute a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law.
Egypt condemned Israel’s "escalatory policies" and ongoing expansion across both the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. It also voiced alarm over the systematic crimes against innocent civilians and ongoing efforts to forcibly displace Palestinians from their land. The statement warned that these moves risk further aggravating an already volatile situation, while also showing disregard for mediation efforts and the proposed ceasefire agreement that includes the release of hostages and prisoners, along with the delivery of humanitarian aid.
Furthermore, Egypt cautioned that the continued reliance on power and “arrogance” to serve narrow political interests or ideological beliefs constitutes a serious miscalculation, driven by the erosion of international justice systems. It warned that such policies would likely lead to further regional escalation, with long-term consequences for inter-community relations and the broader regional and global peace and security landscape.
The Egyptian government called on the international community to act swiftly to bring an end to Israel’s war in Gaza and to halt the violations against Palestinian civilians. Egypt also urged the United Nations Security Council to assume its responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security, in order to prevent further deterioration in the Middle East and growing instability triggered by Israel’s unprecedented disregard for international norms and conventions.
