French President Macron condemns Israeli strike on Gaza church, calls for immediate ceasefire

PARIS, July 18, 2025 (WAFA) – French President Emmanuel Macron has strongly condemned the Israeli airstrike on the Latin Church in Gaza City on Thursday, which resulted in the killing of three civilians and injuries to several others.

In a post published on X, Macron stated, “I have spoken with Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem,” affirming “France’s solidarity with all Palestinian Christians who, from Gaza to Taybeh, are today under threat.”

Macron emphasized that “the continuation of this war is unjustifiable. A ceasefire must be established immediately, and civilians and hostages must be freed from the danger of endless war.”

His comments came shortly after French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot also condemned the strike in a separate statement on X. Barrot denounced the bombing of the Catholic Church of the Holy Family in Gaza, noting that the site is “under France’s historical protection.”

Barrot added that he conveyed France’s sympathy and solidarity to the Latin Patriarch in Jerusalem. “These attacks are unacceptable,” he said. “It is time to stop the massacre in Gaza.”
