Education Ministry urges action as Israel orders demolition of Masafer Yatta 'Tahadi' school

RAMALLAH, July 2, 2025 (WAFA) – The Ministry of Education and Higher Education called on human rights organizations, international bodies, and diplomatic missions to uphold their responsibilities in protecting the right of Palestinian children in Masafer Yatta and other marginalized areas to education. This follows a decision by Israeli occupation authorities to demolish the Palestine Mixed Basic School in Masafer Yatta within seven days.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Ministry urged urgent intervention to halt this unjust decision, ensure the protection of educational institutions in threatened areas, and hold the occupation fully accountable for the consequences of this aggression.

The Ministry stressed that this decision is part of a systematic policy aimed at undermining students' right to education, particularly in marginalized areas facing the threat of forced displacement.

It emphasized the gravity of the decision, which directly affects 130 students and threatens their academic future, describing it as a blatant violation of human rights and international conventions that guarantee children's right to safe and stable education.

The Ministry called on human rights institutions and international organizations to take concrete action, including legal follow-up, diplomatic efforts and legal advocacy to safeguard children’s right to attend school.

It is worth noting that this school, which serves 130 children, was established in 2020 and offers classes from kindergarten through fourth grade. It is part of the Tahadi (Challenge) schools, which symbolize the resilience of Palestinian communities in targeted areas.
