WASHINGTON, DC, June 22, 2025 (WAFA) - In a dramatic escalation of the war between Israel and Iran, the United States carried out airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites early Sunday, marking its direct military entry into the ongoing war. 

The move signals a major shift in U.S. involvement in the Middle East and raises fears of a wider regional war.

President Donald Trump, addressing the nation from the White House, declared that Iran’s “key nuclear facilities were completely and fully obliterated.” While the full extent of the damage remains unverified, this marks the first confirmed U.S. strike on Iranian territory in the current war.

Iran reacted swiftly and sharply. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi posted on social media platform X that the U.S. attacks “will have everlasting consequences” and vowed that Iran “reserves all options” to respond.

Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations has formally requested an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council, denouncing what he called the “heinous attacks and illegal use of force” by the United States.
