NEW YORK, May 22, 2025 (WAFA) – In a joint statement issued Thursday, 80 countries declared that the Gaza Strip is experiencing its “worst humanitarian crisis” since the start of the Israeli war on the territory on October 7, 2023, warning that civilians are now at risk of famine.
The statement was delivered to the United Nations as part of the observance of Protection of Civilians Week in Armed Conflict, and was published in full by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its official website.
“Our message is clear,” the countries stated. “Protecting civilians in armed conflict is not optional. It is a legal obligation under international humanitarian law and a moral duty we cannot neglect.”
