BEIJING, May 22, 2025 (WAFA) – China has called for a comprehensive investigation into an incident in which Israeli occupation forces opened fire near a group of diplomats visiting the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning expressed serious concern during a press briefing on Thursday, stating that Beijing is closely monitoring the situation and strongly opposes any actions that threaten the safety and security of diplomatic personnel.
“We call for a thorough investigation into the incident,” Mao said, stressing that such events must not be repeated. She also emphasized that all parties, particularly Israel, must avoid actions that could escalate tensions further.
The incident occurred on Wednesday when Israeli forces fired toward a delegation of Arab and international diplomats visiting Jenin to assess the humanitarian situation amid continued Israeli military offensive in the area.
China reminded that Israel is a signatory to the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which obligates states to ensure the safety and protection of all foreign diplomatic personnel.
