RAMALLAH, May 5, 2025 (WAFA) – Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh Monday stressed the need for a permanent ceasefire and end the Israeli genocidal aggression on the Gaza Strip.
Vice President and Deputy Chairman of the PLO Executive Committee Al-Sheikh made his comments during a meeting with a delegation from the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), led by Ambassador Monika Schmutz Kirgöz, who serves as the head of the FDFA Middle East and North Africa, and attended by the head of the Swiss Representative Office in Palestine Anne-Lise Cattin Hennin, in Ramallah.
Vice President al-Sheikh briefed the Swiss delegation on the latest political and humanitarian developments in the Palestinian territories, particularly in the genocide-stricken Gaza Strip and emphasized the need to reach a permanent ceasefire in the Strip that would ensure an end to the Israeli genocidal aggression and pave the way for addressing the humanitarian and economic situation comprehensively.
He also emphasized the need for the intensification of international efforts to allow unimpeded access for desperately needed humanitarian aid to Gaza without delay, and slammed the ongoing siege imposed on the Strip coupled with hindering aid delivery to the Strip, as a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.
Both parties stressed anew the importance of the high-level UN conference on the two state solution, scheduled to take place on June 2-4, 2025 in New York, viewing it as a new opportunity to revitalize the path toward the two-state solution as the only path towards just and durable peace in the region based on international law and UN resolutions.
Ambassador Kirgöz affirmed her country’s position in support of the Palestinian people’s rights and commitment to supporting political solutions based on international law, and stressed the need to stop violence, ensure unhindered access of humanitarian assistance to the Strip.
