RAMALLAH, March 24, 2025 (WAFA) – The Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) held a meeting chaired by President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Abbas stressed the importance of concerted efforts to halt the aggression and war of extermination waged by the occupation against Palestinian people, whether in the Gaza Strip after its resumption of its war of extermination, destruction, and killing, or in the governorates and camps of the West Bank, including the destruction, bulldozing, demolition of camps, and forced displacement of residents, adding that this confirms that these escalating crimes require an Arab and international stance to pressure the occupation and implement relevant Security Council resolutions, the most recent of which is Resolution 2735.
The President also emphasized the importance of convening the Palestinian Central Council next month to strengthen and activate the PLO, the sole legitimate representative of Palestinian people, and to confront the challenges facing the Palestinian cause and attempts at displacement and liquidation. He also emphasized ways to consolidate Palestinian people on their land and strengthen their steadfastness in Gaza and the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and to make amendments to the system to ensure the internal Palestinian situation is reconciled and "our Palestinian national unity is strengthened."
The attendees discussed the importance of strengthening Palestinian people's steadfastness, confronting the Israeli occupation's attempts to impose its occupation, and confronting the settlers who carry out daily criminal attacks against Palestinian people, including the destruction of homes and property, the cutting down of trees, the theft of livestock, and other violations.
They emphasized their rejection of the displacement of any of our people in light of a conspiracy attempting to promote the forced displacement of our people, especially in the Gaza Strip. The Executive Committee commended the Arab, Islamic, and international stance rejecting displacement, the adoption of the reconstruction plan, and the assumption of full responsibility by the State of Palestine in the Gaza Strip. The Executive Committee also commended the international stance supporting this Arab plan.
The Executive Committee also commended the popular and student mass activities rejecting the war of extermination and affirming the rights of Palestinian people, who continue their struggle for freedom and independence, leading to the establishment of an independent, fully sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, and the right of return for refugees.
The Executive Committee emphasized the importance of holding the Palestinian Central Council meeting next month, and that preparations are ongoing for its success, leading to Palestinian national unity within the framework of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
The Committee will open the door to all factions to join the organization based on its political program, international commitments, international legitimacy, the principle of one system, one law, and one legitimate weapon. It will also provide comprehensive representation of all Palestinian people and implement a comprehensive strategic plan that strengthens Palestinian people's steadfastness and unity for their freedom and independence.
The Executive Committee has formed follow-up committees to address several of the issues raised and the importance of their success.
The Executive Committee also saluted the steadfastness of all segments of Palestinian people in the camps, inside Israeli occupation prisons, in the homeland, and in the diaspora, calling for international protection for the Palestinian people and an end to the abuse and torture of all our people.
The Executive Committee discussed the challenges facing the refugee issue, including forced displacement, plans to liquidate the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), and attempts to undermine the right of return of Palestinian refugees based on Resolution 194.
The Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) emphasized the importance of implementing international legitimacy and Security Council resolutions. It called on the international community and relevant states to halt the aggression against the Gaza Strip, withdraw the occupation from the entire Strip, and ensure that the State of Palestine assumes its full responsibilities over all occupied Palestinian territories.
It also called for an end to starvation, allowing the entry of humanitarian aid, enabling the return of displaced persons to their homes, reconstruction, lifting the blockade, and supporting the mission and presence of UNRWA.
The Committee also rejected attacks on camps in the northern West Bank, settlement activity, annexation, the theft of Palestinian land, and attacks on holy sites, especially the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Ibrahimi Mosque, and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, calling for a rapid follow-up of reconstruction in order to improve the conditions of Palestinian people.
